Private Concierge vs Hotel Concierge in Paris: What Changes
A hotel concierge serves every guest in the house, for the length of a stay, within the hotel's partnerships. A private concierge serves one client, across stays and years, with a file that remembers. Use the hotel desk for a map and a taxi; use a private concierge when the evening, the week or the year has to be right.
Four differences that matter
The job titles are the same. The service is not.
- Continuity — the hotel desk starts from zero at each check-in; a private concierge starts from your file.
- Scope — a hotel concierge arranges what the hotel allows; a private concierge arranges your life in Paris, including the parts that happen outside hotels: your apartment, your administration, your children's school.
- Discretion — hotel desks are shared and visible; a private concierge works by message, in your name or ours, with an NDA on request.
- Availability — the desk is open when the lobby is; members of a private concierge service have one number, day and night.
Where the hotel concierge still wins
For a single-night stay, a good palace concierge is unbeatable: he is downstairs, he knows the house's partners and he is already paid for. He is also the right person for anything that concerns the hotel itself — the room, the spa, the car at the door. A private concierge who pretends otherwise is selling you something you do not need.
Where a private concierge changes the stay
The difference appears on the second request. The restaurant that is 'fully booked' at the hotel desk because the hotel's allocation is used; the gift that must be found rather than ordered; the doctor at 23:00; the driver who knows the children; the meeting that requires someone to sit with a French lawyer. These are not hotel tasks, and no hotel desk has the time for them during Fashion Week.
For residents, the question does not arise: there is no hotel. A private concierge — or a personal assistant, when the scope widens to administration and household — is the only model that exists.
Using both, well
Our clients who stay in hotels keep using the concierge desk for hotel matters and send us everything else. We coordinate with the desk when needed — the car, the late check-out, the flowers in the room — so that the client never has to repeat anything twice.
FAQ
Is a private concierge only for people who do not stay in hotels?
No. Many clients stay in palaces and retain us for continuity, discretion and everything that happens outside the hotel.
Will a private concierge work with my hotel's concierge?
Yes, routinely. We coordinate with the desk on hotel matters and handle the rest directly.
Does a private concierge cost more?
It is paid separately rather than included in the room rate. Our guide to the cost of a private concierge in Paris explains the models.
Can a private concierge also act as a personal assistant?
At Book & Smile, yes: the same team covers concierge requests and the administrative, household and family side of life in Paris.
